This lovely QUEEN BEE was created through my love and appreciation for bees. On October 1, 2016, National Geographic published an article about seven species of Hawaiian yellow-faced bees that are now federally protected. This was due to invasive species and habitat loss. Even though that number is small, when you think about their purpose through pollination, it has a larger impact than most would consider.
My concern is that many other species will follow, so I decided it was a good opportunity to showcase bees in an anthropomorphic style. To offer art that allows for a conversation of bees beyond just being insects that have a tendency to sting. It is my hope that not only will the art be amusing, playful and clever but that a relationship and understanding of what the bee species offer our daily lives.
Take for example this lovely Queen Bee. She is adorned in elegant fabrics in a lovely garden. Bees pollination offers us cotton to create such a sumptuous dress. The colorful and vibrant garden she surrounds herself in would not be possible without bees collecting pollen from one flower to the other. And the sacred beehive at the bottom of her dress is strategically placed to remind the viewer of how bees are an intricate part of the life cycle.
Queen Bee, Queen Bee, flow for me
Golden dreams upon my tongue
Golden sacs upon your legs
Bring unto my garden an abundance of fame
Thank you for supporting the artwork.
